Scripps name seems to be everywhere in the San Diego community: Scripps
Clinic, Scripps Memorial Hospital, Scripps Research Institute, and
Scripps Institution of Oceanography are examples. All are named for members of one remarkable family that a hundred years ago in San Diego included Edward Willis "E. W." Scripps, Ellen Browning Scripps, and Eliza Virginia Scripps. |
The philanthropy of the Scrippses was encyclopedic.
From architecture to zoology, they fostered colleges, parks, institutions,
